Lead Researcher (PI): Dean Spaner
Institution: University of Alberta
Total WGRF Funding: $217,652
Co-Funders: Agriculture & Agri-Food Canada, Alberta Wheat Commission
Start Date: 2014
Project Length: 5 Years
Objectives:

1. To investigate the genetic basis of earliness in Canadian spring wheat cultivars in relation to photoperiod, vernalization and earliness 2. To determine the presence of different vernalization genes in selected Canadian spring wheat cultivars; 3. The molecular mapping of the genomic regions and markers involved in earliness in Canadian wheat 4. To develop early maturing bread wheat germplasm lines and cultivars with enhanced resistance to rust diseases, including stripe rust.
