Lead Researcher (PI): Aaron Beattie
Institution:
University of Saskatchewan
Total WGRF Funding:
$80,000
Co-Funders:
Agriculture & Agri-Food Canada, Alberta Grains, Beef Cattle Research Council, Brewing and Malting Barley Research Institute, Manitoba Crop Alliance, Saskatchewan Barley Development Commission
Start Date:
2023
Project Length:
5 Years
Objectives:
i) Improve disease resistance by combining resistance to multiple barley diseases (including FHB) such that fewer fungicide applications are required.
ii) Improve malt quality of barley germplasm with a high priority placed on higher starch degrading enzymes, lower ?-glucan and higher extract.
iii) Develop a genomic selection (GS) model for yield that will increase selection efficiency of breeders.
