Lead Researcher (PI): Kate Congreves
Institution: University of Saskatchewan
Total WGRF Funding: $127,716
Co-Funders: Agriculture & Agri-Food Canada, Manitoba Crop Alliance, Mustard 21 Canada Inc., Saskatchewan Oilseeds Development Commission, Saskatchewan Wheat Development Commission, Nuseed Canada, Bayer
Start Date: 2023
Project Length: 5 Years
Objectives:

Overall goal is to provide a comprehensive GHG dataset for five diverse field crops (camelina, carinata, flax, mustard, sunflower) with spring wheat as the reference crop in Canada. Specific objectives:
i) Baseline measurement of GHG emissions (cumulative annual emissions).
ii) Identify the potential for GHG mitigation via “intermediate” and “advanced” N management.
iii) Better understand N cycling and GHG mitigation via isotope (15N) tracing of N and N2O.
iv) Improve the capability to model N2O emissions for diverse field crops (parametrizing, calibrating, and validating the models) and test future scenarios.
