Lead Researcher (PI): Guanqun Chen
Institution: University of Alberta
Total WGRF Funding: $174,789
Co-Funders: Alberta Canola Producers Commission, Manitoba Canola Growers Association, Saskatchewan Oilseeds Development Commission
Start Date: 2025
Project Length: 3 Years
Objectives:

The overall objective of the phase two research is to generate canola breeding materials with good performance under both normal and heat and drought conditions.
Specific objectives include:
1) systemically test the current canola lines under heat and drought stresses at three developing stages,
2) generate canola lines with PDAT up regulation driven by heat, drought, and heat & drought inducible promoters, and
3) evaluate their performance to identify ideal canola lines with good performance under both normal and stressful growth conditions.
